Hi, I’m Miranda.
Marie Miranda was my grandmother, born in Brooklyn in 1924. She worked in a garment factory during WWII, sewing coats for soldiers and slipping encouraging notes into the pockets. She met a sailor in Central Park, fell in love, and moved to Mississippi, where I was born and raised.
Creating Marie Miranda Studio brought me full circle: I’ve been a sewist in Brooklyn for seven years. I hand make my designs using a variety of carefully sourced reclaimed materials like deadstock fabric, secondhand clothing, and vintage trims, and I strive to use as little new material as possible. Here’s my encouraging note in your pocket: slow fashion can be eye-catching, colorful, and attainable.
